Fuck tha Police

I had two more long days at work this past weekend. Nothing much of note, just trying to get the stockroom cleaned up and finish putting out the stuff from the truck. But I had the day off today for LawrenceMania, and it was a very interesting day indeed!

The original card was supposed to consist of four one-on-one matches (Derrick Night vs. The Criminal, Eternal Darkness vs. Ozzy Lions, The Advocate vs. The KliniK, and Drake Carnage vs. Lawrence Alfred), with the winners moving on to a "King of Wrestling" battle royal, and the losers getting to wrestle a tag match. But this past weekend, we learned Night and Darkness can't make it, so we had to rearrange the card. We came up with three battle royal qualifying matches (Ozzy Lions vs. The Criminal vs. X, and the last two would remain the same), with the three winners and the person who was not pinned in the three-way moving on to the battle royal, and a bonus tag match of Advocate & Drake vs. Criminal & Lawrence.

But today, we weren't able to get in touch with Ozzy Lions and ended up having to go to Arceneaux Park, where we held the show, without him. (Arceneaux Park is a very historic site for us, since it's where we held several MSW events in 2002 and 2003. This is the first time in six and a half years that we did a show there.) So with no Ozzy, at the last minute, we came up with just having Criminal vs. X one-on-one, going to a double countout, after which both would advance to the battle royal.

During the show, everyone came out entering like an old school wrestler and acted kind of like that wrestler in their promos and matches. Lawrence and I have been watching wrestling longer than our newer guys, so we were the best at doing our characters (Lawrence as Sting and me as The Undertaker). After the three qualifying matches, Ozzy arrived. He had "overslept" and decided to come to the show anyway, so we replaced the tag match with a 3-on-2 handicap match: Drake Carnage & The Advocate & The Criminal vs. Ozzy Lions & The KliniK.

Ozzy and I have been feuding for months, so this match was basically intended as punishment for Ozzy for being late. The stipulation was that if Ozzy and I lost, that Ozzy would be kicked out of Lawrence's group, Catalyst. So I made Ozzy wrestle the whole match, then I finally tagged in and intentionally just laid down for the loss. But then I was pretty pissed at Ozzy's lateness, so I used my power as GWA President to do an impromptu punishment for Ozzy: "Two Minutes of Hell". It's something I made up on the spot where he had to be in the ring with me for two minutes, and if he fought back at all, he would be fired. I laid some stiff shots in on him for the first minute and a half, then something very shocking happened... the cops showed up!

There was someone in a truck watching us for a little bit of the show, and apparently they thought we were fighting for real and called the cops. Three cop cars came driving up! I guess they were expecting a bunch of violent people viciously fighting and just got a few random people backyard wrestling. The park is in a small town called Broussard, right outside Lafayette, so the cops probably didn't have much else to do. They asked everybody how old they were. I'm 25, and Lawrence is 26, but the other guys were 18 and under, so they said we could be charged with "contributing to the delinquency of a minor". However, the whole thing about backyard wrestling being illegal is bullshit, since we're not actually fighting.

Nonetheless, I was pretty scared that they were going to arrest at least Lawrence and me. They didn't, but they took everybody's name and info, then told us we needed to leave the park and get out of Broussard. So we packed up all our stuff, and since we were going to have a meeting after the show, we then met in my backyard (the original MSW Arena, where we held many of our shows in 2001 and 2002, including our very first show), and had our meeting, after which Lawrence and The Criminal (very fitting name, considering our situation today) stayed at my house to watch RAW with me.

Interestingly enough, the show ending when the cops came actually made for a pretty awesome ending to the show, even though we didn't get to do the battle royal. Unfortunately, the cameraman turned the camera off right when the cops showed up, and the cops aren't shown on the footage, but it did catch Lawrence shouting "Police! Police!" and the sound of a cop shouting "Come over here!" Maybe we can edit in some sirens or something. But it's a pretty cool "shocking" ending for the show, and it adds to the feud between Ozzy and me, as I can claim I was beating Ozzy so badly that the cops had to come save him! By the way, Ozzy and I talked in the meeting, and there's no hard feelings over anything. Now we're just focused on continuing our feud heading into our big match at Starrcade!

In other news, Gaby and I still haven't heard from State Farm (the insurance company handling the accident). We'll call them if we don't hear from them soon. I go back to work tomorrow, for the first of two days of easy shifts, 4-10. But then I open Thursday 7-3, right after closing on Wednesday, leaving only nine hours between shifts. That always sucks, but I can handle it. I'm sorry that long days at work have caused me to not be blogging every day, but I hope my posts when I do blog make up for it!

Clash of the Champions should be done uploading soon, as I only have The Walk-In KliniK and the main event left to upload! The Criminal will be handling the editing and uploading of LawrenceMania, but I might post that here in the blog too when it's done. Clash of the Champions is definitely a must-see event, as is LawrenceMania, especially our unplanned surprise ending!

Thanks for reading, and please feel free to leave a comment!

  2. I'll probably put the last few minutes of LawrenceMania on MSW Weekly Update this Friday, including the "Two Minutes of Hell" and the cops' run-in! (Though they didn't actually get in the ring.)
